Befor entering the ticket office we look at the 3 ships in front of the museum. After paying the entry fee we walk inside the fortress and all ready se the enclosures for seals and sea lions. In the outdoor pools of the Lithuanian Sea Museum there live Baltic sea grey seals, East Atlantic harbour seals, North sea lions and penguins. The seals and the penguins are bred successfully. The seal breeding is part of the HELCOM project intended for restoration of the southern population of grey seals in the Baltic Sea. During the summer season, shows by the North sea lions are given. The Lithuanian Sea Museum keeps three species of penguins: Gentoo (Pygoscelis antarctica), Magellanic (Spheniscus magellanicus) and Jackass (Spheniscus demersus) penguins. The penguins require continuous care: microclimate, strict sanitary regime, disease prevention and treatment, and food with vitamin and mineral additives. At the Museum these birds are fed twice a day; every bird is given ca 1.2 kg Baltic herring or other kind of herring. Then we are entering the fortres main building, where we find the aquarium. Here you can see Lithuanian freshwater fishes, fish species from the Baltic Sea and tropical seas, as well as invertebrates. The museum has equipped exhibition tanks, the capacity of which ranges from 1 to 6 m3. Every tank is equipped with a mechanical filter and a biological filter. The hourly capacity of the filters equals from 1 to 2 volumes of water in the exhibition tank; therefore, the water is always clear and clean. In the Aquarium of the Lithuanian Sea Museum the visitors can see fishes from the Baltic Sea, tropical and fresh waters. In the central pool of the redoubt there live fish species of impressive size, for instance, sturgeon and trout. One’s eye is attracted by stony and soft corals. Right next to the fortess we are having the dolphinarium with daly shows
