The Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park (Kristiansand Dyrepark) is a Zoological garden and amusement park. It is Norway's most frequently visited attraction, covering an area of 150 acres (61 ha). Animals include wolves, lynxes, wolverines, tigers, lions, chimpanzees, mooses, zebras, and orangutans.Other attractions include Cardamom Town

Entrance fee (prices mentioned here are the higheste) are cheaper outside of High season, and there are 2-4 days passes as well (save 50 NOK by buying online). Combined tickets to the water-fun-land can be bought.

Chronic

  • 1964 Kristiansand Zoo is established. Initiator Willy Tjomsås together with five businessmen, begin the company Kristiansand Zoo on April 22, 1964. That same fall a zookeeper, a construction worker and carpenter was hired.
  • 1965 Pentecost day the zoo opens unofficially, and the first guests are entering.
  • 1966 The official opening of the park takes place on Saturday the 25th June 1966. 30 animal species are already in place in enclosures around the duck pond. The bears are the big draw.
  • 1967 A souvenir kiosk is built inside the park, and some animals come from abandoned Fornebo Dyrepark in Oslo.
  • 1968 A wolverine enclosure opens in September, and a fox put into the bear enclosure. Judy, the first Norwegian-born baboon, is born in the zoo and evokes a sensation after being rescued by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and being brought up by an office lady. For the first time moose are shoen through calves Peik from Telemark.
  • 1969 20 Bactrian camels are coming from the Soviet Union in autumn 1969, purchased by the zoo-owned company Alpaca Farm. This is the only time that the zoo has received public assistance in this way. Baboons are now being replaced by five gibbons. A beaver facility opens that year, but the attempt is not successful.

  • 1973 Book publisher Cappelen gives two stags to the zoo. After paying the entrance fee just go behind the troll in to the deep troll-forest.  Behind it turn to the right to get to Cardamom city, here we find donkeys and inside the city some parrots. Behind the city is the enclosure for Bactrian Camels. Turn arround nd keep to enter the Nordic wilderness with European otters and beavers. Across is a huge area for wolves that we are going arround on. Then seeing owls, moose wolverines, Arctic fox and the lynx. Outside of this area we still keep right and arrive at the farm "Kutoppen". to me horses, cows, goats, pigs and poultry. Behind it we meet the fallow deer, keeping  to the right we meet the Amur tiger. They are part of the Asian area where we following are meetin the Orang utan and the Lar gibbon. After the lesser pandas we turn left to see the ibex. Across are Guanacos and following theire enclosure to South American tapirs and capybaras. Lets the go to the cheetahs, the first animals of the African area. Next are lions and then a huge Savannah with girafes, zebras and antelopes. Across beyond the small train tracks we are having a petting zoo with goats. Beyond it is the last area, the jungle. Out side we meet Chimpanzees, monkeys as the ring-tailed lemurs  and flamingo's. Inside are several terrariums, squirrel monkeys, tamarins, fish  and some bird species.
