The Martin Mere Wetland Centre is a nature reserve that's home to a wide range of endangered waterfowl, playing host to over 100 rare species of duck, geese, swan and flamingo. As well as waterfowl, Martin Mere currently houses four European beavers – the first to return to Lancashire in 500 years. For those that prefer to stay behind the scenes though, the Harrier Hide looks out onto the reserve’s reedbeds giving great views of the surrounding birds in their natural environment. The Mere itself is a spectacular sight, covering 150 hectares it is often visited by thousands of swans and geese.
