A trip to the Zoo of Acadiana provides not only great opportunities to see wild animals up close and personal in a natural environment, but a day full of fun activities as well. There are parrot feedings where visitors can actually handle Australian parrots in their habitat, a petting zoo, and Zoo Keeper Talks that explain various animals. Kids will enjoy the Antelope Express Train rides around the 42-acre property and the Jungle Lodge Playground, the largest playground set in Louisiana! But back to those animals — there are more than 550 on the property at this accredited private zoo. As you make your way through the winding paths, you will experience various habitats of the world. Look for Jolie the white tiger and several kinds of hoofstock in the two savannas, plus many endangered and threatened species, such as the black and white Colobus monkey and ring-tailed lemur. The new additions to the zoo consist of a family of camels, an otter oasis and three silver foxes.
