History:
What originally began as a private hobby of Walsrode businessman Fritz Geschke with the breeding of pheasants and waterfowl, his daughter Uschi and her husband Wolf Brehm developed under the auspices from 1962, early became a worldwide famous attraction for nature and animal lovers as well as an internationally highly respected instance for breeding and conservation projects Already in the first six years the park area was doubled. Gradually, the couple Brehm expanded the park to more and more - in some cases worldwide trend-setting - installations. At the end of the 60s was the first major investment, the tropical house with a walk-in paradise hall, which attracted international attention. Here visitors could walk straight through the habitat of tropical birds and watch the flying gems without separating grid for the first time. Then unique in the world a few years later the free-flight aviary was created. From 1974, were within a short time the parrot house and the Parakeet aviaries, the Lori-atrium, the Rosenhöhe with the Rose Café and the historical model windmill built. In the 1980's the facilities for penguins, birds of prey and cassowaries followed. After three years of construction, the crane enclosures for their new residents was released in the early 1990s. 1999 inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of Lower Saxony Gerhard Schröder was the largest single investment of the Weltvogelpark, the rain forest hall. The new millennium brought visitors numerous innovations. Starting developed by the outdoor stage for the daily air shows and the baby bird station to the water playground for younger guests the Weltvogelpark enlarged its services continually. 2009, the Belgian company FLORALUX became the operator of the park. The initial motto is "The strengths of the park once again strengthen " and its renaming as the WORLD BIRD PARK Walsrode in connection with a new logo and a special flair for the soul of the park the motto of the park is faithfully passed back to its former strength. Just as the Weltvogelpark of joy arose at the wide range of bird life, it also wants to stay to the delight of its visitors the place where you can enjoy the beauty of nature and its creatures in almost forgotten harmony.
